The Artists Formerly Known as Women will be participating in a water march on March 22. Please join us and look for us there.

FOR LOVE OF WATER – A community march inspired by FLOW the Film.

A March to highlight the importance of water in our local environment, our lives and the planet.

Through this march we take on the commitment to bring people together on this most important topic and resource. While bringing awareness to local issues relating to water, we also have an opportunity to bring attention to world water issues impacting fellow humans around the world. We chose March 22nd so our march would coincide with World Water Day.

Framing the Loop

Framing the Loop, our site-specific installation opens today at the Audobon Center in Debs Park. Here is the exhibition blog: http://zone5inthecity.wordpress.com. This piece addresses the local terrain, the ecosystem and the effects of water consumption on the local landscape. The Butterfly Loop trail at the Audobon Center is augmented with signage and recorded information to be accessed by cell phone.

Visitors on the trail are alerted to specific places of interest along the path. Each selected site is “framed” by an empty picture frame to focus the walker’s attention. Frames are attached to posts and set into water containers weighted with pebbles. A small engraved plaque with text in England and Spanish contains a telephone number that viewers may call to listen to information regarding the particular site.

The telephone recordings are in English and Spanish. These recordings are a mixture of metaphoric, poetic, musical, and historical narration related to each site.

The six sites marked are: storm drain, native peoples, non-native plants, trash, dead trees, and fauna.
